What is the course about?

This 6 week exploration of Meditation and Buddhism, is an introduction to a range of traditional meditation practices and offers some input about the life of the Buddha. Hear how the Buddha’s teachings are still relevant to our lives today. The course is also a chance to explore the practices with others and connect to a sense of community

What will we cover?

During each evening we will spend some time learning a meditation practice, looking at techniques which can support and enhance our practice as well as correct meditation posture. Each week there will be time to sit together, and space to ask any questions that arise for you. We’ll be learning traditional mindfulness based practices and a meditation that can help us develop positive attitude and emotions towards ourselves and other people in our lives. There are also supportive practices using the body as a basis.

Over the weeks we will be bringing alive the potential of freedom that meditation can offer us, a path towards getting there, and the benefit of doing that with others. This is also known as the three jewels: the Buddha, the Dharma and the Sangha, which are central themes to all traditions of Buddhism.

This course can help you to…

Set up a regular meditation practice, either guiding yourself or listening to recordings with increased confidence. Identify how mindfulness can support new ways of looking, seeing and being in the world. Connect to renewed inspiration and purpose. Understand some of the basics of Buddhism to help you continue exploring deeper.

Is this course for me?

Suitable for absolute beginners, those curious to learn more about Meditation and Buddhism with others, and for those with experience in mindfulness and/or Buddhism who wish to re-fresh their practice or find new approaches.

All equipment is provided – chairs, cushions, mats, and blankets. Please just wear loose, comfortable clothing and turn your phone to silent.

Cost: by suggested Donation

Generosity is an important and fundamental Buddhist practice. As a Sangha we do not want to exclude anybody from hearing and learning about Buddhism, so all our courses and classes are offered on the basis of donation. All our teachers give their time voluntarily without any remuneration, and we do not charge a set cost in order fo you attend. However, we still incur costs related to running the Centre and keeping it open, so we invite you to make a donation in appreciation of what you receive and based on what you feel you can afford. Purely as a guide we suggest an amount of £10-20 per week, £60-120 for the whole course, but anything you feel able to give will be much appreciated.
