Join us for a guided walking food tour of Halifax Borough Market, sampling dishes and specialties from some of the best eateries and hidden gems in the Halifax area, served up by local independent market traders. Over two hours, you’ll have the chance to savour a curated selection of tastes and flavours from Halifax and around the world, as well as learning about the market’s rich history, dating from the Victorian era to the present day.
Please note: this tour will include a visit to the 'Hop In' Bottle Shop and Bar, where there will be a mix of alcoholic and non-alcoholic tasters available.
What to Expect:
- 2 Hour Guided Market Tour: Your market tour guide will take you on a journey through the market’s history and its impact on the town of Halifax, and share with you mouth-wateringly good food stories from both past and present.
- 4 Surprise Food & Drink Stops: Sample a curated selection of non-vegetarian and vegetarian treats, including two sit down tasting stops. The food varies on each tour but may include: artisanal cheeses, homemade baked goods, award-winning pies, American diner style small plates, authentic Asian food, tasty plant-based dishes, and delicious drinks from around the world.
- Meet Local Traders: Chat with vendors and stall owners, hearing firsthand about their craft, recipes, and the stories behind their business.
- Small Group Experience: Limited to 12 guests for a more personal and interactive tour.

Need to Know:
- The tour will start at 1.30pm promptly. Please arrive at least 5 minutes beforehand.
- There will be non-vegetarian options and at least one vegetarian option per stop on this tour.
- If you have any allergies, please make sure to check with each food trader before tucking in!
- Due to the nature of creating a well-balanced and thoughtful culinary experience, many of our tours are unable to accommodate certain dietary restrictions. Please do contact us prior to booking your tour to see if we are able to accommodate your dietary needs.
- There will be some walking involved, both indoor and outdoors, please wear comfortable footwear and appropriate clothing for the weather.
- Please bring your own bottle of water with you. Drinks are available to buy on the tour if preferred.

The non-vegetarian tour still includes one vegetarian sample per stop, so they will still have plenty of opportunities to enjoy the food on the tour. However, we also offer a fully vegetarian tour which includes at least one vegan option per stop, so this may be worth considering.

We don’t share in advance which traders will feature on your specific tour, as this can sometimes change at the last minute, due to the nature of working with market traders who require flexibility. However we can promise you an interesting variety of local and international food!
Yes! The tour does involve some walking between food and drink stops, but we have scheduled in opportunities to sit down at various points. Please contact us to discuss any specific access needs.
On the food tour you’ll visit at least three different food stops and one drink stop, and can expect to be full by the end of the tour – so, no need to eat lunch beforehand.
Drinks aren't included on the tour, but you will be able to buy drinks on the way round if you wish.
