About this event

ALL London organises webinars for the MFL community and this webinar, held in a Zoom room and also viewable on an unlisted YouTube stream, is open to all MFL teachers. We hope that you will like us and want to join!We thank Joe Dale for co-ordinating the TiLT (Technology in Language Teaching) series of webinars, bringing together teachers who are interested in developing their use of technology in their teaching. As well as enhancing our skills, we also get to meet other 'keenies' from across the globe, and can get to know each other informally by chatting before, during and after the webinar. We also thank the presenters, who give freely of their time and expertise. Where possible, most sessions are recorded and available for viewing later.

SESSION INFORMATION

A new chapter emerged in education in 2020. Engaging and motivating students in their MFL learning throughout lockdown and now in a blended learning environment has undoubtedly been challenging. In my contribution, I will share how I include digital tools to build connections with students in a socially distanced classroom, how I use video recordings to replace the traditional phase of oral input-flooding and modelling and how low-prep activities help me deal with the practicalities of teaching during the pandemic. Above all, I will share that if you embrace challenges with a sense of adventure and enthusiasm, both you and your students will benefit.

SESSION PRESENTER

Sonja Fedrizzi has been an MFL teacher for 13 years. Since graduating from the University of Vienna in 2007, she’s taught all levels of French, Spanish, German and EAL in Austria, Australia and now Edinburgh, where she currently teaches French and Spanish. A few of her achievements include the introduction of Spanish as a subject at Kedron State High School, Brisbane, and the school’s bi-annual Spain trip as well as winning the ELFT scholarship from the University of Adelaide which allowed Sonja to undertake a teacher immersion programme in Salamanca. Since moving to the UK, Sonja has been active in the Scottish ML community, teaching German at the Edinburgh City Council immersion event for senior students and presenting at the Edinburgh Languages Masterclass. Responding to the pandemic’s challenges, Sonja has enthusiastically researched, applied, and shared, a range of digital-age teaching resources. This emerging professional interest includes presentations at the 2020’s SALT conference and the 2020 Linguascope Show and Tell.

We organise regular London-based events throughout the year for local members to encourage close and sustainable networking between  people.  We are inclusive!  Although we strongly encourage people to join ALL which supports work done at a national level,  our events are open to all those who care about language learning, and we love it when people join us from other parts of the country (or the world!)

Our local events  complement events organised at a national level.   An enthusiastic and lively committee plans the  events  as shown by the online diary.  Please  contact us for further information in any way which suits you best.
