Event description

Description

Coventry Rugby is one of the city’s hubs for sporting heritage. Founded in 1874, Coventry has provided plenty of players to the England national team over the years, including all-time greats such as David Duckham and Fran Cotton.

Now based at Butts Park Arena, close to the city centre, Coventry Rugby is undergoing a resurgence back to where a club of its history and standing deserves to be.

Back in the Championship in 2018 after a seven-year absence and following a record-breaking campaign to win National League 1, Coventry Rugby has secured a second season with several rounds to spare, a significant achievement for any promoted team.

Coventry Rugby is actively involved in City of Rugby, a new initiative which is part of Coventry’s ten year sports strategy. Unique to Coventry, City of Rugby was established with the aim of promoting rugby of all codes and its core values of teamwork, respect, integrity, sportsmanship, enjoyment and discipline, across the city. The ultimate objective is to establish Coventry as one of the leading cities in the world for every level of the sport by 2023, rugby’s 200th anniversary.

During our visit we will hear about the commercial, playing and community engagement aspects of Coventry Rugby Club before ending our visit with a pitch-side look behind the scenes.
