AN AFTERNOON WITH JUDGE LARRY GIST

The Faculty of Advocates is very proud to welcome and play host to an esteemed delegation of Texan Lawyers this month.

To mark this occasion Judge Larry Gist has kindly agreed to give a talk about his experience as a Texan Judge and Lawyer.

Judge Gist is Senior Criminal District Judge in the Jefferson County Drug Impact Court, and a certified specialist in Criminal Law by the State Bar of Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

He is chair of the Judicial Advisory Council, past chair of the State Bar of Texas Criminal Justice Section, and a member of the American Probation and Parole Association, Texas Probation Association and Texas Corrections Association.

He is a board member of the Texas District and County Attorneys Association Foundation and in 2014 he received an award for his lifetime of service having demonstrated a long-term, consistent and significant contribution to the betterment of the judiciary and access to justice in Texas. He is the fifth judge to receive the award and is the first trial judge in the state.

Gist began his career in law as an assistant district attorney in Jefferson County in 1965 and became Criminal District Judge in 1975. Since 1995, he accepted appointment as a senior district judge in the Drug Impact Court. As Criminal District Judge he has presided over many notorious and high profile cases some of which have resulted in death sentences.
