The beautiful and historic village of Gracehill near Ballymena is a settlement founded by the Moravians in 1759. Designated a Conservation Area in 1975, Gracehill has won many awards, including the Europa Nostra Award in recognition of the village’s outstanding conservation initiatives. Most recently, Gracehill has been honoured with the award of UNESCO World Heritage Status. Although the Giant’s Causeway has been a natural World Heritage site since 1986, Gracehill is the first site in N. Ireland to receive cultural World Heritage status.
We are delighted that Dr. David Johnston, former Chair of UAH and current Chair of Gracehill Trust, has very kindly agreed to give a tour of the Conservation Area. We will start our visit at Gracehill Old School, (19A Church Road, Gracehill, Ballymena, BT42 2NL), where we will meet at 10.30 am for coffee. Also included is a guided walk round the Village Square and visits to the Moravian Church and the former Single Brethren House. The tour will finish at approximately 12.30 pm.
