About this event

Community • Historic

Visit includes an Elizabethan walled garden and the Great Barn and a vinery Berkhamsted Place was built by Sir Edward Carey, Keeper of the Queen's Jewels (Elizabeth I), using material from the castle. From the 18th century onwards it was frequently known as The Castle. Although little remains of the mansion itself, the area is rich in history. Tours will include the Great Barn which is even older than the mansion. Although the mansion was demolished in 1967 much of interest still remains. There will be a small exhibition depicting the history of the Place.
