Event description
Join archaeologist Andy Chapman to discover the history of Stanwick Lakes from Neolithic People to a Medieval Hamlet

About this Event

An exciting three-year project at Stanwick Lakes, “Settlers of the Nene Valley” continues this year.

Over the past 5,000 years, the Nene Valley has seen successive settlements by Neolithic, Bronze and Iron Age, Roman, Saxon and Medieval Settlers.

We are working with individuals, families, local community & heritage groups and schools to explore, re-create and celebrate the lives of these Settlers as they travelled, settled and traded along the Nene Valley.

Sunday, 8th September 2019

This is an invitation to join us for one of our "Walks Through Time" around Stanwick Lakes.

Join archaeologist Andy Chapman to discover the history of Stanwick Lakes from Neolithic People to a Medieval Hamlet.

It is a guided walk around the Stanwick Lakes site, based upon the significant archaeological finds found here in the 1970s-90s.

The site has yielded an array of treasures, enabling the story of human activity within the valley over many thousands of years to be told.

A Walk Through Time

The walk will be guided by Andy Chapman - a resident archaeologist on the site in the 1970s-90s

Sunday, 8th September – Meet at 1.30 pm for refreshments and an introduction in the Visitor Centre, followed by the Walk at 2 pm.

The event is free, but admission is by ticket only. Book early to avoid disappointment.

Standard car parking fees will apply.

Further details:

The walk is around 1 mile long and will take around 1 ¾ hours. Stout shoes are recommended as at times the walk will be over grass. The walk will finish at the Raunds end of the site, not at the Visitor Centre. Please contact us if you need further information about the walk.

There will also be an opportunity for you to find out more about the “Settlers of the Nene Valley Project” and how you can take part in its activities .
