Event description

Description

This 1 hour walking tour will tell the story of how Manchester became the first place to build an entirely publicly funded, purpose designed centre for the gay community, just as Thatcher’s government were enacting Section 28.

As The Manchester Christmas Markets will be in full swing, please meet at Manchester Town Hall side entrance, on Lloyd Street. I will be waving a small rainbow flag! Please note that the tour ends around 16:00 at the LGBT Centre/ Sidney Street Cafe (just off Oxford Road) for hot drinks and vegan cake - and where you can spend some time looking through the archive material which inspired the tour.

All attendees will receive a free zine!

See wewereborninthe80s.wordpress.com for more details.

Tickets are free, registration is preferred, but we will be asking for a small donation at the end of the tour to support The Proud Trust, the charity which manage the centre.
