About this event

Market towns have always enjoyed a rich choice of inns and taverns, and Alnwick is no exception. The number of pubs and beerhouses increased rapidly following the Beer Act of 1830 and by 1860 it had peaked at around 60. As housing conditions improved, and alternative forms of leisure were introduced, the number fell. Join this walk to learn more about the fascinating story of Alnwick pubs, and how they adapted to changing tastes over the years.
