Event description

Description

Mixing the literary with the literal, and class with sass, cabaret artists Rose Lawless, Darina Gallagher & Sinead Murphy bring the musical and vocal high notes to this Sunday afternoon show at Buswells Hotel. Actors Elaine O'Dea and Geraldine McAlinden inhabit Maureen and Mag in a rehearsed reading of a scene from Martin McDonagh's Beauty Queen of Leenane.

The funny and musically gifted Darina Gallagher & Sinead Murphy perform a poem by Percy French called "The Queen's After Dinner Speech - Sez She'' which is all about Queen Victoria's visit to Ireland and Maud Gonne blaming her for the famine.....; a sea shanty incorporating a Yeats poem, and a poem written by Oliver St. John Gogarty called 'The Song of the Cheerful (But Slightly Sarcastic) Jesus' (subsequently appropriated by Joyce as 'The Ballad of Joking Jesus').

Bethencourt Productions 2018 Literary Cabarets at Buswells Hotel, comprise a variety of acts celebrating Irish literature in music, comedy and drama. With a focus on the unmentionable, the censored and the filthy the cabaret is inspired by Irish literary figures who took the decent world by storm.

Leonor Bethencourt, Master of Ceremonies brings actors, comedians, singers, and musicians together to create an original show. In the historical landmark that is Buswells Hotel, have a drink, relax, unwind and prepare to be surprised by the corrupt, the degenerate and the immoral.
