You are warmly welcomed to join Engender for a 2 hour workshop exploring women's rights and inequality in Scotland. This workshop will feed into work holding the UK to account for gender inequality and will help shape Engender's report to the United Nations. Engender are a leading Feminist campaiging organisation in Scotland.

This is a private booking page that has been shared with you directly. This session is only open to those who receive this link directly from the Equality Network or Engender and is open to all LGBTQ+ women.

By signing up you will:

Be able to share your experiences with a leading Feminist campaigning organisation to shape the direction of feminist campaigning in Scotland. (Input shared is completely anonymous).

Connect and share with others, taking part in a creative workshop.

Accessing the workshop:

We will cover accessibility costs including,
Travel to and from the venue. This may be a public transport day ticket purchased in advance, arranging a taxi service for you, or reimbursement of your travel costs.

Translation, scribe or other service costs to ensure the session is accessible to you.

Share your hopes for a future, gender equal Scotland
Feed into the UN’s scrutiny of the UK under CEDAW (or our reporting to the Committee)

What is CEDAW?

The Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) is the UN’s human rights treaty devoted to women; it spells out in detail women’s human right to equality and non-discrimination.

The implementation of CEDAW is monitored by the UN’s CEDAW Committee, a body of 23 independent experts. The Committee holds the UK to account on women’s human rights, by examining the activity of UK and devolved governments and then making recommendations for governments to address gender inequality.

The CEDAW committee’s next examination of progress will take place from 2026 onwards. Ahead of this, we will be producing a shadow report to support the examination, as we have in previous years (see the latest report from 2018 here).

Input shared on the day will:

Contribute to and inform our work campaigning for women's rights in Scotland
Contribute to the report Engender submits to the CEDAW committee’s next scrutiny of the UK and Scottish Government’s performance under the treaty
Inform our work/ focus in the run up to the Scottish Parliamentary elections in 2026
It is vital that this review of progress made under/against CEDAW includes the lived experiences of diverse communities of women across Scotland. Your input can have a very real and meaningful impact.

Who we are and what we do

Engender is Scotland’s Feminist Policy and Advocacy organisation. We are a passionate team of twelve women who campaign for women's rights in Scotland. We are intersectional feminists - we recognise women in Scotland are hugely diverse and experience unique and multiple layers of discrimination. Our work is rooted in intersectionality.

We produce research, policy analysis, and engage with women across Scotland, to improve legislation and programmes for women's equality.

Towards the end of 2025 there will be an online version of this workshop held if you are unable to attend this workshop in person.
