Event description

Description

Please join Ros from The Natural Dyeworks and Grace from Maybe May for a botanical inspired workshop in natural dyeing and flower arranging, held at the beautiful Form Lifestyle. Each student will learn both the art of natural dyeing and hand-tied bouquet making,

“Natural dyeing is a process that uses botanical ingredients to dye fabric in ways that have been used for thousands of years. Plant materials suitable for dyeing can be sourced through foraging (Nuts, berries, bark and plants), or through everyday food waste (Including onion skins, avocado and tea) and the process encourages the dyer to look at their surroundings and the seasons in a new light”

The process is chemical free, 100% natural, slow and sustainable.

During your workshop, Ros will show you simple steps for how to prepare different fabrics through scouring and mordanting and share tips and techniques to avoid disappointing results.

We will then discuss some of the different natural ingredients that can be used to create a wide palette of colours and tips for what to look out for each season.

Ros will show you how to make a dye bath from seasonal ingredients and together we will then dye a range of swatches after which you will have the opportunity to dye several pure silk ribbons in the colour of your choice to complement your hand tied bouquet made with Grace from Maybe May.

All materials will be provided and there will be a worksheet for you to keep as well as all samples made during the workshop.

After, for those of you who love flowers, join us in a flower filled workshop to learn some beginner’s floristry skills and techniques that can be used time and time again. Whether you're considering a move into the floristry industry or just want to have a better knowledge of how to care for and arrange your flowers this workshop is perfect for all levels and a lovely way to spend your afternoon creating a beautiful bouquet complimented by The Natural Dyeworks silk ribbons.

Grace will guide you through a hand-tied bouquet making technique and each student will make a beautifully arranged seasonal bouquet, alongside learning some industry tips on how to care for and get the most out of your blooms. We will touch on techniques, tools and where to source flowers, as well as foraging advice and working with the seasons.

All tools and flowers will be provided with this workshop.

Light refreshments and drinks will be provided throughout the workshop.

Please note: places will be limited so that we can concentrate on a small number of students. The workshop starts at 12pm and runs for approximately 3hrs - times may vary slightly due to differences in individual making times. This workshop requires a minimum number of attendees in order take place - should this not be met, you will be issued a full refund or offered a place at our next workshop
