About this event

There are over 800 community-owned businesses trading across the UK providing a valuable service to their local communities as well as creating inclusive and welcoming spaces. These brilliant businesses are great fun to run, but rely hugely on volunteers, particularly for committee roles.

Plunkett UK, the community business charity, is running an in-depth workshop to help you and your business think through some key questions for your committee…

  • How do you make your committee as effective as possible?
  • What are your legal responsibilities?
  • What are the key duties of each committee role?
  • What is best practise in terms of committee and staff/volunteer relations?
  • How do you recruit and succession-plan for successful committees?

This day-long workshop, run by Plunkett UK advisers Alison and Misty, will look at all the above questions and provide you with inspiration and advice to help you maximise the potential of your committee, and give you the chance to meet other people facing similar challenges and opportunities.

The day will be invaluable for new, prospective and experienced committee members.

We support rural communities across the UK to tackle the issues they face through community business. Community businesses are enterprises that are owned and run democratically by members of the community, on behalf of the community. They come in many forms, including shops, pubs, woodlands and anything that lends itself to community ownership.
