About this event
Together with Josie, head gardener at Perch hill, she tests and trials a great range of container plants year on year and has done now for 10 years. Sarah starts by taking you through her colour theory, moving onto recipes for pots for all times of year using her favourite container plant choices. Whether it’s with tulips and wallflowers in spring or dahlias, annuals and perennials for summer and autumn, the day is jam-packed with ideas for pots for any site and situation, grand or small, sun or shade. You’ll get it all.
Sarah will teach you her colour theory, dividing the plant world into 4 palettes, using lots of Perch Hill pot combinations over the years. She will also cover some winning form combinations , and arrangement of pots in groups, lines, theatres or paths.
In the second session, Sarah will run you through the year, highlighting the best planting combinations and recipes for impressive pots all year round. She will hand you all the results of her tests and trials, design ideas and practical tips.
In the afternoon you'll also get a selection of demos, including how to create successful, abundant spring pots using the bulb lasange method and recipes. Covering lots of practical skills including propagation, pest and disease control, and staking and taking cuttings.
This course is taught by Sarah Raven. It is a lecture with slides format, with some practical demos. You will also get a course hand-out covering all the information taught on the day. It is held at Oxleaze Barn, Filkins, Lechlade GL7 3RB
The day lasts from 10.30am till 3.30pm including tea/coffee on arrival, (from 10am for 10.30am prompt start) morning tea/coffee break and a simple 2 course lunch using recipes from Sarah's cookbooks (cordial, not wine served with lunch..... we find people tend to fall asleep after lunch if we serve wine........)
