Adult Sailing Courses at BCYC

Weekend Course - for either RYA level 1 - Start Sailing OR RYA level 2 - Sailing Basics

This is the last chance in 2018 to get in your Adult sailing course - with the opportunity for complete beginners on the Level 1 - Start sailing Course or for back to sailing / progression with RYA level 2 (sailing basics - independant sailing)


RYA Start Sailing RYA level 1

A two day RYA Start Sailing Dinghy Course for Adult novices or as a refresher for those returning to dinghy sailing.

The course is over the weekend and follows the RYA start sailing syllabus and aims at developing confidence and competence of the participants while sailing under instruction and will allow participants to progress towards sailing independantly

The course takes place using club training boats that can be hired by members once RYA sailing basics (RYA level 2) certification is achieved.

RYA Sailing Basic Skills RYA level 2

A two day RYA Sailing Basic Skills Dinghy Course (level 2) for sailors who want to progress from start sailing - level 1 - (sailing under instruction), to sailing independently.

The course takes place using club training boats that can be hired by members once level 2 certification is achieved.

The course follows the RYA syllabus and aims at developing confidence and competence of the participants to sail independently without an instructror. Attendees are expected to be RYA level 1 certified or have the equivalent skills and experience. A two hour taster session can be booked for an instructor to assess your confidence and competence prior to this course. Contact training@bcyc.org.uk

What Do I Need to Go Sailing?

The course provides all equipment that you will need, wetsuits, bouyancy aid and spray jacket. In the summer, a change of clothes and shorts can be worn - subject to the weather conditions.

You will need to provide shoes that can get wet (training shoes or pumps will do) and a towel. The club has lockable changing rooms and hot showers. Teas an coffees and be purchased at the club and there is food available on a Sunday. Most participants bring a packed lunch

The course runs from 09:30 to 17:00 each day.

How Much Will it Cost?

The two day course costs £190 for the public and £120 for BCYC members. RYA Sailing manual is available for £10. If you do not have an RYA logbook - one will be provided
