Description

Talk by Elizabeth Darling and Lynne Walker
AA Gallery, 36 Bedford Square

This talk introduces the AA XX 100 project, which celebrates and commemorates the centenary of women’s admission to the Architectural Association School of Architecture. Through a series of case studies, it goes on to show how the AA, Bedford Square and the area around it, provided a vibrant context from which generations of women went on to design the world.

Speakers Bio
Elizabeth Darling and Lynne Walker are members of the project team for AA XX 100. Both have researched and published extensively on the history of women and architecture in the UK and will co-edit the project book Breaking the Mould: AA Women in Architecture 1917-2017 (AA Publications) and co-curate the exhibition of the same name.

Winifred Ryle is thought to be on the far left, with Ruth Lowy (Gollancz) second from left and E.G. Cooke (Edith Gillian Harrison) second from right (AA Library)
