Then we look forward to seeing you at ABC Connect: Tourism in Africa; an industry-focused event which is part of the AFFORD Business Club's monthly networking event series.

This roundtable event will be a fantastic opportunity to meet members of the African travel community who also work within the tourism sector. We shall explore how to best access opportunities and overcome various challenges faced by diaspora running travel and tourism enterprises.

Our keynote speakers include Pumela Salela of Brand South Africa, Yasmin Boaitey of Black Girl Nomads and Abdul-Karim Abdullah of Afrochella Festival.

Pumela Salela - UK Country Head of Brand South Africa

Pumela Salela is the Country Head for the United Kingdom (UK) under Brand South Africa, the custodian of the South Africa Country Brand. Her role is to market South Africa in the UK, attract foreign direct investment (fdi) into South Africa, mobilise Global South Africans (GSA) abroad and to manage the brand reputation of South Africa. Prior to serving in this role Pumela was the Chief Director for Economic Policy Development and Planning at the Department of Economic Development in South Africa.
Ms Salela is a Board member of the Global Sourcing Council, an Ambassador for Sustainable and Socially Responsible Outsourcing in Africa, and sits on the Executive Committee of the Tri-Sister City Alliance (TriSCA).
Pumela worked for a number of years in various marketing roles in FMCG multinationals and media organisations in South Africa and the United Kingdom before joining the public sector. She has also been a lecturer in Strategic Brand Management at VEGA, The School of Branding. In 2018 she was awarded the African Achiever Award for the work that she does in promoting Africa.

Yasmin Boaitey - Founder of Black Girl Nomads

Yasmin Boaitey is the creator of Black Girl Nomads, a platform created to inspire and connect black women throughout the diaspora who love to travel. Black Girl Nomads specifically focus on travelling to countries within Africa and organise international tours for black women. The next tour is taking place in Senegal in January 2020.
