Event description

Description

NHS Health Scotland would like to invite you to a meeting on Tuesday 5 September for Aberdeen-based community cafes that are interested in finding out about community café networks.

Community café networks are relatively new to Scotland. A few have been set up in Scotland in the last couple of years (in Edinburgh, Dumfries and Galloway and Forth Valley) and there are community cafes in three other local authority areas that are exploring setting one up.

The networks bring together community café staff and volunteers, so that they can share their knowledge, skills and experience, and provide mutual support. Edinburgh Community Café Network has been running for longest: it has over 40 members, its own website, has run joint training for café members, and has encouraged lots of its members to achieve the healthyliving award (an award for caterers offering their customers healthier menu choices) and to become ‘breastfeeding friendly’ spaces. The network members’ cafes are all very different, including some that are open very part time and sell a small range of food and drink, to others that are open 7 days a week – and everything in between.

We would be grateful if you could let us know by Wednesday 23 August if you can attend (to help us with the catering numbers).
