Thu 30 March 2017, 18:45 – 21:00 BST
Welcome to Aberdeen Entrepreneurs. The business networking group which offers a working environment for business individuals to come and meet new people, network, gain business opportunities and have an enjoyable evening with like-minded people.
Each event runs with the same format; a guest speaker, question and answer session, networking and a one course supper. There is no membership for Aberdeen Entrepreneurs – as we know you are busy and are unable to attend every month, but our large pool of like-minded people ensures a good turnout.
Mike Wilson is the Founder and Managing Director of Ecosse Subsea Systems Limited.
With years of experience in subsea operations, Mike brings a fresh and innovative approach to the challenges of working in this sector, being called upon for particularly technically challenging or commercially critical scopes of work. It took Mike about 32 years to discover that he thinks differently from others about engineering problems. As a local Entrepreneur he will share how not fitting in and thinking differently can equal success. With 32 years in the Subsea energy industry find out how he diced with the Robert Gordons examiners, having decided not to join the local garage as an apprentice mechanic. How he was rejected at one job interview despite having the highest ever score in an engineering aptitude test, to working on almost every continent and establishing Ecosse Subsea Systems, a local company working globally and thriving despite the current economic challenges. A graduate of RGIT, Mike worked for UDI, NOS, McDermott and CNS before starting Ecosse Subsea Systems. Completing projects for CNS, Alcatel, S-SAM, CNR, Conoco Phillips, Bibby, Shell, CRC Evans amongst others, Mike’s reputation as a knowledgeable, experienced consultant has also led him to provide Expert Witness services in a number of cases. Mike is an innovator who enjoys developing new products and services that addresses subsea challenges.
"I enjoy the networking events at Aberdeen Entrepreneurs. There is a really good mix of new businesses facing the same challenges we face, and established businesses that can open doors to new opportunities. I have found all of the events I have attended interesting and worthwhile. Even where the relevance of the topic may not have been immediately obvious, it is fascinating to hear different perspectives and I’ve come away having had some interesting discussions, a head full of new ideas and on a few occasions, some follow-up business."
