Description

Aberdeen Branch SUT Evening Meeting on Wednesday Sep.20.17

September is the beginning of the new calendar year for SUT Aberdeen and it has historically been the month when we deliver to you, the members, our rapid-fire technology evening: “Gadgets and Widgets”.

For September 2017, your Committee has decided to look at something new and different and to make the evening a success, we are looking for your input during this, the planning stage.

The Committee is looking to assemble a panel of industry experts who can discuss, debate and answer questions associated with our offshore energy sector, taking a lead on the format for the evening from the successful TV panel show – Question Time.

For what we plan to be a very interesting and stimulating evening, engaging with our members as the knowledgeable audience, we are looking to receive from you, indications of the type of questions that look at the big picture for our sector. For example:

The past 50 or so years for the North Sea and Aberdeen has been predicated on a predominantly carbon-based history. However; the advent of environmental awareness and the need to develop and deliver greener energy solutions means we have already witnessed change. What is the panel’s insight into energy production in the next 25 years?

The SUT as a Learned Society catering for all facets of underwater technology in the marine environment and distinctly different from a Trade Association, has been heavily reliant on the oil and gas sector almost since its inception in 1966. Going forward, where does the panel see the future of SUT, especially the membership demographics?

Chairman for this developing evening meeting will be Steve Hall, the newly appointed Chief Executive, who comes to the SUT from a non-oil and gas background but with a broad experience of a wider vision of underwater technology demands. As a Committee, we would hope that the members will grasp this opportunity to come along and meet Steve, but to develop the composition of the panel we would like to receive your input to the burning issues that you would like to see discussed in this forum.

Please submit your draft questions to Jacqui Adams, UK Events Manager at SUT Aberdeen by e-mail to Jacqui.Adams@sut.org There is no rush but please do it now and certainly no later than Jul.31.17.

The date for your diary is Wednesday, Sep.20.17 at the Sir Ian Wood Building of RGU in Garthdee, 17:30 for 18:00 start. We look forward to seeing you there.
