Overview

This crash course provides trainees with essential drug knowledge to enhance their understanding of harm reduction.

During this session we will share current and credible information on drugs and harm reduction in Scotland, introducing some of the most important drug trends at the moment and providing techniques to identify drugs based on their effects. This course is designed to provide a basic understanding of drugs and harm reduction.

Drugs covered will include:

  • Synthetic opioids (nitazenes);
  • Cocaine and crack;
  • Benzodiazepines;
  • THC vapes;
  • Synthetic cannabinoids (spice);
  • Ketamine;
  • MDMA pills.


Course Objectives

By the end of the training, participants will be able to:

• Recall emerging trends in the Scottish drug market

• Name the typical effects and side effects of key drug categories

• Identify key harm reduction advice

• Recognise the signs and symptoms of overdose
