For this conversation, we'll be joined by J'oseph Capehart of The Garden, to explore what abolition can teach us about creation of the life-affirming.

The Garden is an abolitionist bookstore and community well committed to inspiring, educating, and empowering Black people in Brooklyn, NYC & beyond to interrogate the world we live in and cultivate the worlds we need. As part of The Garden's work of reigniting collective imagination in service of Black liberation, they share resources and literature, encourage political education, partner with neighbours to build mutual aid programmes and work to create lasting alternatives to the Prison Industrial Complex.

About the speaker:

Liberian by way of Minneapolis, J’oseph Capehart is a teacher, writer, and world-builder based in Brooklyn where they are nurturing an abolitionist bookstore and community well with their neighbors. Pushing the needle when they can and flipping the table when they must, J’oseph is Black, queer, and concerned with freedom.
