Event description

Description

Have you ever wondered why Abraham accepted God’s command to sacrifice his son? Have you ever stopped to think what the experience would have been like for Isaac? What would Sarah have made of it all? Why would God make such a command?

This event presents a unique opportunity to see four performative texts, ranging from the medieval to the contemporary, that imagine with verve the experiences of the human participants as they undergo God’s ordeal.

The first play dates from the early fifteenth century (although it will be performed in modern English).

Wilfred Owen’s poem places the story in the context of WWI.

The modern plays are by the controversial contemporary British playwright Howard Barker.
