About this event

Come and join us for this once-in-a-lifetime event and experience abseiling like never before! This challenge takes place across two stunning Peak District locations for a truly thrilling adventure.

Start the day with the adrenaline rush of abseiling from Millers Dale Bridge — a 90ft drop over the River Wye to kick off the challenge. You’ll spend the morning completing a series of different abseils to build your skills and boost your confidence.

In the afternoon, we’ll head underground to abseil through spectacular caves, including a descent down a waterfall! Our expert guides from Dolomite Training will provide all the equipment and instruction you need.

Reserve your place now with a £30 registration fee (a bargain — this event would normally cost £100!) and commit to raising a minimum of £150 in sponsorship. We’ll be on hand to help you smash your fundraising target.

As a thank you for taking part, you can choose either a Shelter-branded T-shirt or a bobble hat to wear proudly after the challenge!

We’ll meet at Millers Dale Station car park — you’ll need transport to get to the afternoon location. Please note: to access all abseils you must be able to climb a ladder back up, and travel through the cave to reach the underground sections. If you have any concerns about accessibility, please get in touch with Lizzie at lizzie_lawson@shelter.org.uk.

Due to the nature of this event and the unpredictability of the British weather, some locations may need to change (for example, if caves are inaccessible). Fortunately, Dolomite Training have run this challenge many times and have excellent backup locations ready.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a car?

Yes, due to the different locations involved you will need access to a car throughout the day.

What happens in the event of bad weather?

In most weathers, there are a variety of location options that we could use so the event will still go ahead. In severe weather that poses a danger, we may need to postpone the event.

Do I need to fundraise?

Yes, due to the cost of holding this event we ask all participants to raise a minimum of £150.

What if I can't raise £150?

Don't worry, we will be on hand to support your fundraising and will help make hitting your target easy! If you have any concerns about your fundraising then don't hesitate to get in touch with lizzie_lawson@Shelter.org.uk so we can reassure you.

I have additional accessibility requirements, can I take part?

Please email lizzie_lawson@Shelter.org.uk to discuss individual requirements or concerns.

What do I need to bring?

Please wear warm clothing (we recommend multiple layers, ideally non-cotton) and bring a spare change of clothes (or two in the case of rain). You may wish to bring your own lunch, or alternatively this can be purchased from the café at Millers Dale car park.
