Explore mark-making, abstract art (drawing, painting, collage) with professional artist Blandine Bardeau in an experimental, supportive environment. No previous experience required, just a willingness to explore and be surprised. The aim of the series of workshops is to start a creative process outside of the pressure of producing a “good result”, supporting students to learn how to research and what inspiration means, as well as the importance of looking and seeing, and how to start an artwork using different methods. It also aims to explore what it means to make abstract art, how joyful and meditative it can be and why it is a valuable thing to do. Students will be invited to experiment, play and try out new things and to develop their own artistic language. At the end of the series, students will have produced many exercise artworks and will have achieved at least one finished piece.
-Week One: Abstract drawing exercises, the myth of the "good result"; the art of looking and seeing, why make art and abstract art at all?
-Week Two: The art of research, explore what makes you tick, prepare mixed-media collage materials
-Week Three: How to start an artwork using different methods
-Week Four: Continuation of artwork making from previous week and end of the workshop discussions, peer sharing
"I had identified a need to devote some time to concentrating on my artistic practice. The course proved to be exactly what I wanted and needed. I spent time on four consecutive evenings, supported by a group of like-minded yet creatively diverse people in an atmosphere of calm, and with activities led by someone with whom I immediately felt a connection and whose philosophy and approach to the subject gained my immediate respect."
