Event description

Description

In response to the themes in the H_A_R_D_P_A_I_N_T_I_N_G_X2 exhibition this course will help you to develop an understanding of abstraction so that you can explore this within your own painting. The tutor will offer a series of introductions to the methods and approaches that can be harnessed to create your own non-figurative visual language.

This course aims to give you the skills, techniques and confidence to move towards abstraction in your image making. You will experiment with contrast, texture, layering, constructing, addition and subtraction, mark-making and scale to explore how figuration talks to abstraction.

Students will work with self-generated and found images as well as collage. You will work on canvas and paper using acrylic paint as well as experimental materials such as glitter and dust.

This course is suitable for people who have some experience of painting.

Some materials will be provided including un-stretched A3 canvas and paper. Students will need to bring a minimum of 2 x paint brushes (one narrow and one wide) plus larger pieces of canvas if you would like to work larger than A3.

This short course has been programmed in response to the H_A_R_D_P_A_I_N_T_I_N_G_X2 exhibition on show at Phoenix Art Space in Spring 2020.
