ACAA Contract Launch Ceremony in Brent

Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health Support for Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (“UASC”) and former UASC in the London Borough of Brent.

An Introduction to our new Contract Funded by Brent Council

EVENT OBJECTIVES

This event will be a chance for the Founder and CEO of ACAA, Dr Nooralhaq Nasimi MBE and the Contract Delivery Team to introduce ACAA and share details about the aims of the contract. We will also have a panel discussion and Q&A where the audience will be able to ask questions to the speakers.

With funding for 3 years, this contract is the first partnership between Brent Council and ACAA, aimed at providing Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health Support for Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (“UASC”) and former UASC aged 16–21 living in Brent.

The London Borough of Brent is currently home to 37 UASC and 166 former UASC (as of November 2024). Many of these young people have endured conflict, loss, separation from family and displacement, and now face isolation, language barriers and emotional trauma.

This contract will offer a safe space, emotional wellbeing and therapeutic support, one-to-one guidance on independent living, peer connection and pathways into education and employment. Our aim is to build a sense of belonging, resilience and brighter futures for young people rebuilding their lives in Brent.

About ACAA:

The Afghanistan and Central Asian Association (ACAA) is an award-winning British charity based in London and established in 2001 with a long history of delivering advice, support and integration support for refugees and asylum seekers across the UK. ACAA was founded by Dr Nooralhaq Nasimi, who arrived as a refugee in the back of a refrigerated container with his young family in 1999.
