Description

Academies: The pros, cons & what governors and headteachers need to know to become an academy

Overview

As of February 2016, there are 234 primary schools in Oxfordshire. A considerable number of these primary schools have fewer than 230 pupils and are located in the villages and small rural towns of Oxfordshire.

Given that small, rural, primary schools account for a large proportion of the schools in Oxfordshire, the issue of how they perform and the school improvement model that is most appropriate for them is a point we would like to explore; we believe the academy process could be a valid option.

This event will consist of talks and Q&A discussion, touching on themes raised by speakers who represent primary schools that have joined Multi-Academy Trusts (MAT); Directors and Governors whose roles have changed since their school joined a MAT; CEOs of MATs and their thoughts on the financial benefits, and the moral and reputational advantages of joining a MAT.
