Accelerating Net Zero: Investing in the Electric Vehicle Ecosystem
Event Information
About this Event
About this Event:
The transition to electric vehicles (EV) is a vital part of achieving net zero, but it had been stuck for years with a chicken-and-egg problem. Until there were extensive networks of public charging stations, a critical mass of people would never feel comfortable driving EVs, but until a critical mass of people were driving EVs, there was no sense in investing in extensive networks of public charging stations.
Recently we have seen huge leaps forward in the deployment of EV charging infrastructure sector and the take up of EVs. Business model innovation has been very active. "Charging as-a-Service" market is becoming increasingly attractive to project finance lenders who are able to address 'bankability' issues. Other investments / business models are emerging through unlocking the value of V2G and car sharing.
In this event, we will explore:
What are the emerging business models in the EV ecosystem?
Who is currently investing; what are they investing in; and what is the scale of their investments?
What are energy suppliers doing?
What impact will these activities have to accelerate the transition to Net Zero?
What are the lessons that can be learned from leading countries?

Accelerating Net Zero programme:
In June 2019, the UK became the first major economy to pass a net zero carbon emissions law. This new target committed the UK to bring all greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050.
Net zero means reducing human-caused greenhouse gas emissions as much as possible and balancing out any remaining emissions from the atmosphere through planting trees or using technology like carbon capture and storage. With this new net zero target, all activities that generate carbon emissions must be examined.
Awareness of the causes and impacts of climate change is rising, and more action is being taken across society. However, 2050 is not as far away as it sounds, and we need to accelerate the engagement with people, communities and businesses in order to achieve the net zero carbon target.
The Accelerating Net Zero programme seeks to bring together those who are leading change and move our world forward together at IDEALondon. With the UK hosting the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow this year, we have a great opportunity to lead the conversation. We hope you can join us.
