Access Denied: The struggles of young black men in the healthcare system

You're invited to Access Denied, a powerful photovoice exhibition and community conversation led by Yusuf, Saeed, Jama, and Osama, four young Black men who came together as co-researchers to explore why so many of us aren’t attending our NHS appointments.

Through powerful photography and lived experience, this project reveals how systemic racism, institutional distrust, and historic neglect shape how our communities access care. It’s not just about missed appointments but about missed opportunities, unheard voices, and systems that continue to fail us.

Developed in collaboration with Coffee Afrik, Barts Health NHS Trust, and Queen Mary University of London, this in-depth research project is rooted in community, care, and the urgent need for systemic change.

Access Denied is a call for equity in healthcare. It challenges us to listen, reflect, and act. Join us for an evening of storytelling, reflection, and collective dialogue as we imagine a future where our health systems are built on trust, respect, and justice for all.
