FREE indoor beginners' skateboarding session with trained coaches and skateboards and helmets available to borrow. Everyone welcome ages 7+

About this event

We're super excited to announce FREE weekly beginners' skateboarding sessions starting on Saturday 26th March.

These will run for 12 consecutive weeks at the Brendon Laurence Sports Centre in St Ann’s, which is an all-weather venue with a large capacity. We will then move to an outdoor venue for a further 12 weeks - as the weather becomes more consistent. Our ability to offer 6 months of skateboarding lessons, entirely free-of-charge, has been made possible by Sport England and the National Lottery, who have kindly provided a grant from the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Fund. Anyone is welcome ages 7 and up.

You will get a thorough, safe introduction to skateboarding if it's your first time; or we'll work with you to help you progress if you've skated before. We'll be trying out the new Skateboard GB 'Cruiser' Award for beginner skateboarders, so you'll have an opportunity to be one of the first in the UK to complete this foundation level progression award in skateboarding- also for free.

You only need to reserve tickets if you need to borrow a skateboard and helmet. If you have your own kit, you can just turn up without booking. We have x16 helmets and complete skateboards which are free to use. All participants should arrive with appropriate footwear - which includes trainers, gym shoes or plimsolls. Please do not wear sandals (including crocs), flip-flops or other open-toed shoes, or shoes with raised heels or wedges.

It will take place in the main sports hall at Brendon Lawrence Sports Centre, in St Ann's, a short journey from Sneinton Market and Nottingham City Centre. There will be a range of movable skate obstacles for you to use.

All coaches are experienced, with DBS certificates and child safeguarding training. This event is insured through Skate Nottingham's community group membership of Skateboard GB, the National Governing Body for skateboarding.

We will register all participants on arrival and take parents'/carers' contact details. There are benches and other seating on-site if parents/carers want to stay during the session. There is no upper age limit - adult beginners are very welcome, as are family groups wanting to get into skateboarding together.
