Options and advice on Assistive Technology, Equipment and Driving for disabled people all ages and older people.
About this event
Explore possibilities for independence through equipment/services and learn about opportunities to help disabled drivers of all ages and abilities get behind the wheel. Occupational Therapists will also be on hand to offer specialist guidance and advice.
AccessAbility will provide a rewarding and fulfilling day out for:
- Disabled children
- Parents and Carers
- Healthcare professionals
- Older People
- Approved Driving Instructors
- Disabled adults
- Disabled teenagers (14 year+ for the drive test)
AccessAbility will include experiences such as:
- Options and advice on Assistive Technology and equipment – opportunity to try products which can enhance your everyday life and enable greater independence.
- All aspects of driving including vehicle adaptations, accessible vehicles and a test drive circuit with new and existing drivers in mind for 14+ years.
- Chill out in the gaming area including advice on adaptations to enable everyone to access computers, mobile phones, tablets, toys and computer games.
- Opportunity to speak to an Occupational Therapist for information and guidance.

11:00 Delivering Change in Accessible Accommodation led by AbleStay - Charles & Jo van Berckel (founders)
AbleStay is a new charity to provide fully accessible holiday accommodation for disabled people with complex physical disabilities.
AbleStay opens the doors to London’s first and only fully accessible holiday home this summer. Attend this workshop to learn about accessible holidays .
12:00 - Leveling the video game playing field Led by Special Effect

13:00 - Accessibility out and about Led by Chattertons
When we talk about Equality or Discrimination, people often think of this in an employment context.
What people often aren’t aware of, are their rights when being discriminated against by a service, when buying goods, in education when attending university, or by a local authority.
This workshop will detail an individuals rights and what they can do should they face accessibility barriers.
14:00 - Driving with a Disability led by William Merritt Centre
The Driving with a Disability Seminar will include information on the Medical fitness to drive assessment process, Vehicle adaptions, Driving Licenses for people with disabilities and medical conditions, details on how disabilities and medical conditions impact your driving and a Q&A Session.
