Description

DfT and Landor LINKS are organising a Transprt Accessibility Action Plan (AAP) Consultation Workshop in London to raise awareness of the Transport Accessibility Action Plan Consultation and the accessibility challenges experienced by people with disabilities when navigating the public realm.

The workshop is part of the 12-week TAAP Consultation, published by the DfT on 24 August, 2017 and open until 15 November: www.gov.uk/government/consultations/draft-transport-accessibility-action-plan

One delegate from each local authority is invited to attend, free of charge. Please let us know by return:

  • who will represent your authority
  • details of any good practice in public realm accessibility and inclusive design in your LA area
  • details of good practice in positive engagement with local transport users and disability charities in your LA area

About the AAP Consultation
The AAP is a cross modal strategy that covers transport accessibility and stems from the Government’s commitment to ensure people with physical or hidden disabilities (autism, dementia, and mental health conditions, among others) have the same access to transport and opportunities to travel as other members of society.

About the AAP Workshop
The Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT) will faciliate the workshop, which will focus on:

  • Promoting understanding of the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED), a commitment within the TAAP
  • Collating Local Authority feedback on support needed to deliver PSED: training, guidance, funding
  • Understanding how the PSED could form part of the procurement / contracting process of local authorities
  • Sharing of good practice about public realm accessibility and inclusive design
  • Outsourcing the design and development of shared spaces
  • Good practice guidance on positive engagement with local transport users and disability charities
  • Showcasing Local Authority best practice in public realm accessibility and user engagement

The target audience for this free, invitation-only workshop is Local Authorities, disability organisations and disabled transport users.
