Event description
Learn to code the sites you build to be as accessible as possible, with the minimum of fuss, and confidence in your techniques

About this Event

• Event dates: 11th and 12th November 2020

• Timings: 14:00 - 17:30 both days

  • This course is a live course, held remotely via Zoom
  • Please note that the ticket prices displayed are inclusive of VAT

Web accessibility is now a required skill of all web developers. And yet many have not had the opportunity to learn it from real experts, who not only know accessibility, but themselves code websites every week.

Learn practical web development techniques to ensure websites are fully accessible across desktop, tablet and mobile. Understand the needs and challenges of people with disabilities, and how to apply the latest techniques to create responsive websites that meet the latest version of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, WCAG 2.1 AA.

The training leaves space to ask questions you may have regarding accessibility, and also includes an online assessment at the end of part 2, so you can gain formal accreditation for your accessible coding skills from Hassell Inclusion Academy.

You will build your knowledge of accessibility through 5 (of 12) practical modules covering:

  • Keyboard and Gestures
  • Content that updates
  • User input (including forms and error messages, labels, and field autocomplete)
  • Custom controls and widgets
  • Review and delegate feedback

Is this for you?

  • This is suitable for all web developers who want to enrich their existing HTML5, CSS and JavaScript skills with the understanding and techniques needed to make the code they deliver accessible and compliant with WCAG 2.1 AA.
  • If you have any questions about whether the course will give you what you need, contact us at learning@hassellinclusion.com and we'll be delighted to help you.

Benefits to you/your organisation

  • Improve your personal skills in accessible web development, learning with your peers, from experts who themselves build sites every week
  • Develop in-house expertise in the latest web accessibility standards
  • If you complete both Parts 1 & 2, become accredited as an Accessible Developer by Hassell Inclusion Academy
  • Increased market access and revenue opportunities through coding accessible, compliant sites that allow the fullest access to 20% of the population that are often excluded
  • Reduced risk of legal challenge (legal or regulatory) from site visitors who can't complete tasks on your site
  • Business advantage wherever clients require accessibility, especially in international markets with strict procurement requirements (Europe, USA, Australia)

  • Completion of Web Developers - Part 1
  • Skills in web development (HTML5, CSS and JavaScript)
  • Desire to learn and discuss code ideas

  • Bring your own laptop to the session (PC or Mac)
