About this event

Hobbies • DIY

This open session is for people with disabilities, neurodivergence, or sensory sensitivities who may benefit from additional support when using our workshop space.

An ETL staff member will be on hand to support you, along with two experienced ETL volunteers. Unlike our regular Open Sessions, you do not need to book an induction before signing up. Instead, we’ll take time during the session to explore which tools you feel comfortable using and help you find suitable alternatives for any that don’t feel like the right fit.

What to Expect

  • A friendly, inclusive environment where you can learn and create at your own pace
  • Your own workbench and access to a wide range of large-format woodworking tools
  • Supportive guidance from ETL staff and volunteers
  • The opportunity to work on a project of your own choosing — or, if you’re looking for inspiration, we’ll have a few simple project ideas to get you started

This is a space to explore new skills, gain confidence, and connect with others in a relaxed and welcoming setting.

Accessibility

  • We have two tickets dedicated to wheelchair users per session.
  • Personal assistants do not need to book a separate ticket, they can just come along.
  • Quiet space available.
  • You can find our Portobello Workshop Accessibility Guide here.

Requirements

Having an active membership at the Edinburgh Tool Library is compulsory. Sign up or renew your membership here.

Booking etiquette

If you would like to attend this session but find that it is already fully booked, new sessions across both Tool Library workshops are published on eventbrite weekly every Thursday evening at 20:00.

Cancelling and £5 no-show fee

Out of courtesy to volunteers please cancel your booking 48 hours in advance.
