Event description
Young people in Years 9, 10 and 11 are invited to take part in creative, fun & free workshops in order to achieve their Silver Arts Award!

About this Event

The Silver Arts Award is a nationally recognised qualification, that is achieved by young people developing their leadership, employability, and arts skills through taking part in innovative and fun creative activities. Awarded by leading exam board Trinity College London, the Silver Arts Award is a Level 2 qualification (meaning it’s the same level of “difficulty” as an A*-C GCSE) that can be included on college or UCAS applications, and on CVs.

We are delighted to be able to offer a group of young people the opportunity to achieve their Silver Arts Award by taking part in FREE after school writing workshops here at Grimm & Co between January – July 2020. During these fun and creative sessions, young people will:

• find out about different careers in the arts, by working alongside a diverse range of creative practitioners

• develop their arts leadership skills by being supported to plan, create and sell their own DIY magazines at an indie publishing event

• enhance their creative skills in their choice of writing form: from poetry to short stories, song writing to blogging, journalism to scripts, they can specialise in whichever skill they want to develop!

• showcase their creative work at a one-day family arts festival taking place locally this summer

As always at Grimm & Co, we aim for the sessions to be creative, innovative, welcoming, and (perhaps most importantly) fun!

The sessions will be run by Grimm & Co’s creative learning manager, Sarah, who is a trained advisor at Silver Arts Award level. We will also bring in lots of other creative practitioners for the group to work with and learn from – and our “special guests” will be chosen by the young people themselves, based on what careers they want to find out about, and what types of creative activities they would like to have a go at.

This workshop programme is open to young people in Years Nine, Ten, and Eleven (e.g. born between 01.09.2003 and 31.08.2006), and is FREE to take part in. Participants must be able to attend all of the workshops in order to achieve their Silver Arts Award.

The workshops will take place at Grimm & Co, 2 Doncaster Gate, Rotherham, S65 1DJ, from 4.30 – 6.00pm on the following Tuesdays:

• 14th January; 21st January; 28th January; 4th February; 11th February
