The Life Sciences Initiative (LSI) at Queen Mary University of London is hosting its second Equality, Diversity and Inclusion focused learning and networking event on 18th October 2016.
The event will focus on the broad theme of “Achieving Athena SWAN Silver – Learning from our peers”. It will be a lunch and learn event that will take place between 12:00 -14:00 at the Room 1.21, Garrod Building, Turner Street, Whitechapel,E1 2AD.
This event is being organised in collaboration with Kings College London. We will be joined by Hannah Powles from the Women’s Health Academic Centre KHP and Sabina Khanom from the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience at Kings College London who have significant experience of leading and supporting Athena SWAN initiatives within their departments.
Our colleagues from Kings College London will share their experience and learning from their work on Athena SWAN projects highlighting the challenges that they faced and the key interventions that were developed to successfully address them.
The positive impact of the learning and development, engagement and culture change interventions that they have been put in place to support the progression of women academics, researchers, professional staff and students at Kings College have been recognised through the achievement of an Athena SWAN Silver award.
The presentations will be followed by a question and answer session and a group activity that will enable us to decide if there are specific interventions we can adapt and use at QMUL.
The event is part of a series planned for the next 12 months that focus on ‘Promoting and embedding equality, diversity and inclusion’
Places are limited and will be allocated to those who register first.
Lunch is also included.
