Event description

Description

Have you heard the buzz about apprenticeships recently?

Apprenticeships in the UK have been around for as long as we can remember, however in recent years they have evolved in a direction which means that apprenticeships have become a viable progression opportunity for students with academic abilities ranging from average to exceptional.

In fact, since April 2017 there have been additional incentives for some businesses to provide apprenticeships, to help fulfil the Government’s promise of 3 million new apprentices by 2020.

So might an apprenticeship be a suitable progression route for your child/ren? Is it possible to do an apprenticeship and gain a university degree? Can your child go into a great career in digital marketing, business, accounting and finance, web design, event management and more with an apprenticeship?

The answer to all of those questions is yes and if your son or daughter is interested in starting work and they are keen to learn some skills and gain qualifications, then an apprenticeship could be the right option for them. On an apprenticeship, they study for qualifications while working and they learn the skills they need for the job they are doing.

If you are a parent of a student at Skinners’ Academy who is in Year 10, 11, 12 or 13… you are invited to attend our first ever apprenticeship insight event for parents: “Achieving excellence through apprenticeships” which will take place on Tuesday 13 March at 6pm.

Y10-13 students are also encouraged to attend, and there are more tickets allocated for those in Y11 & Y13 due to these being transition years and it’s incredibly important to understand all progression options, including apprenticeships.

This apprenticeship insight event takes place in the theatre at Skinners’ Academy and involves:

  • 5.45pm: Doors open - Please settle in the theatre

  • 6.00pm-7.00pm: A panel discussion in the with a range of experts on apprenticeship opportunities, from government agencies, professionals in a range of industries and a university

  • 7.00pm – 7.30pm: Networking / opportunities to ask questions

Please do register here to confirm your ticket for this free event. (This is our most efficient way to manage the numbers, so make sure you register).

Whether or not you envisage your child going to university and whatever career area they are interested in, chances are that it’s beneficial for you (all) to understand the opportunities available via apprenticeships so you are well equipped to support your child/ren as they make decisions about their progress beyond Skinners’ Academy and towards their careers.

You won’t want to miss this event – register now.

If you have any questions, please contact head of careers and communications, Gina Visram via gvisram@skinnersacademy.org.uk and / or head of parental engagement Nadine Bowling on nbowling@skinnersacademy.org.uk
