About this Event

10:00 Welcome and introduction (Chair, Karen Brown - Senior Policy Advisor, Northern Housing Consortium)

The Northern Housing Consortium (NHC) is a membership organisation for local authorities, housing association and ALMOs. The NHC’s current programme of work includes #OurNorth Net Zero – a programme of activity for members to come together and build the connections and confidence to lead on housing decarbonisation in the North of England.

10:10 Presentations

Prof. Ken Gibb (Director, CaCHE)- Retrofitting traditional Scottish tenements to EnerPhit standards: a partnership-based demonstration project and evaluation

Glasgow has around 70,000 people living in pre-1919 sandstone tenements. This presentation reports ongoing work to provide a multi-level evaluation and wider learning exercise based on the retrofit of a typical pre-1919 Glasgow tenement of eight one bed flats, owned by South Side Housing Association.

Prof. Darren Robinson (Chair in Architectural and Urban Sciences, School of Architecture, University of Sheffield) & Dr. Gustavo Sousa (Research Fellow, School of Architecture, University of Sheffield) - Dynamic simulation of the housing stock to support decarbonisation transition

Achieving the UK's commitment to cut down CO2 emissions in the residential sector will require a combination of reductions in energy demand and the decarbonisation of heat provision and the wider power system. In this talk, we will highlight the major issues to be addressed for this transition to happen, and the suitability of enhanced stock energy models to support the formulation of policies and strategies in the sector.
