Save the Date: Achieving Zero Deforestation in Forest Risk Commodity Supply Chains Through Enhanced Transparency and Accountability Workshop

The Global Canopy Programme (GCP) and our supporting partners CDP, Forest Trends, the Natural Capital Declaration, the Rainforest Alliance and theStockholm Environment Institute (SEI) invite you to attend our forthcoming workshop ‘Achieving Zero Deforestation in Forest Risk Commodity Supply Chains Through Enhanced Transparency and Accountability’, This interactive event will take place on the sidelines of the forthcoming UNFCCC climate change negotiations on Wednesday 2nd December 2015, in Paris.

Given that countries’ collective Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDC) submissions still predict a rise in temperature of 2.7 degrees Celsius, there remains much to be done to mitigate climate change. Safeguarding forests and removing deforestation from agricultural supply chains provides a unique opportunity not only to avoid catastrophic climate change, but also to effect a transition to a more sustainable economy

However, according to recent GCP research only 8% of companies have committed to implementing zero or zero net deforestation commitments across their supply chains, and relatively few investors have enforced any deforestation policies whatsoever. The primary aim of this workshop is to engage leading companies and financial institutions in dialogue to identify opportunities and solutions to effect a rapid transition to deforestation free supply chains. This can ensure that zero deforestation commitments are realised on the ground.

Leading investors and companies will examine ways in which greater cooperation can catalyse rapid and positive change across sectors to enhance transparency and accountability in agricultural supply chains. Join leading organisations such as BNP Paribas, CDP, and UNEP FI to discuss how to accelerate the removal of deforestation from agricultural supply chains.
