Event description
This ACIG Bite-size meeting will explore the current UK market for farmed seafood products and look at positive ways to engage shoppers.

About this event

The Seafish-facilitated Issues Groups provide a discussion platform for some of the most important issues facing the seafood industry, particularly in relation to the responsible sourcing of seafood. During the current pandemic Seafish is taking these meetings online.

It is estimated that farmed seafood currently makes up 55% by value (38% by volume) of the UK top five best-selling seafood species and this share continues to grow. This Aquaculture Common Issues Group Bite-size meeting will explore the current UK market for farmed seafood products and look at positive ways to engage seafood shoppers through marketing to address misconceptions around aquaculture products, as well as look ahead to future developments.

Our speakers are:

  • Richard Watson, Market Insight Analyst, Seafish. Richard will talk about the Market Insight service provided by Seafish; long-term seafood consumption and aquaculture trends; the impact of COVID-19 on the seafood market and aquaculture species, and the seafood market post COVID-19.
  • Anette Zimowski, Head of International PR, Norwegian Seafood Council. Anette will talk about communicating sustainable aquaculture, using examples from their work in Norway (and in their biggest salmon markets) to illustrate how they work to change misconceptions and negative coverage of salmon farming.
  • Neil Auchterlonie, new Chair of the Seafood 2040 programme. Seafood 2040, through the Seafood Industry Leadership Group and the Aquaculture Leadership Group, is an all-sector roadmap with an ambition for a sustainable and thriving seafood industry. Neil will discuss the priorities within the strategy drawing from the three key foundation principles of collaboration, science and best practice.
