A concert featuring works by English and American composers including Elgar, Holst, Britten, Walton, Barber, Bernstein and Sondheim
About this event
A celebration of English and American music performed by the Salisbury Chamber Chorus, conducted by John Cuthbert. The programme celebrates the similarities and contrasts in English and American music in the late 19th and 20th Centuries. The musical traditions of each nation give plenty of enjoyment through song cycles, choral music, operas, operettas, cantatas and musical theatre. One concert cannot hope to encompass the whole gamut of possibilities, but the Salisbury Chamber Chorus will be presenting a wide range, featuring works by the English composers, Elgar, Vaughan Williams, Britten, Holst and Walton, and, from across the pond, Copland, Sondheim, Barber and Bernstein. The audience will surely discover some new music to fall in love with alongside more familiar favourites like Barber’s Agnus Dei, based on his Adagio for Strings, and Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms.
