About this event

From ancient Egyptian funerary statues found on Crete, to evidence for diplomatic missions sent to Egypt by rulers in the Aegean, it is clear that there was both trade and diplomatic contact between the Two Lands of Egypt and the island- and city-states of the Aegean world during the Bronze Age. This study day will explore facets of this contact and seeks to investigate perhaps the most under-studied of ancient Egypt's foreign relationships. The study day will be hosted by Dr Campbell Price (Curator of Ancient Egypt and Sudan at the Manchester Museum) and Dr Nicky Nielsen (Senior Lecturer in Egyptology, University of Manchester).

Talks:

"The Pharaoh and the Minotaur: Egyptians in Crete and Cretans in Egypt"

"Voyaging votives: Egyptian(ising) objects on Greek Islands"

"Warriors from the Great Green: Mycenaeans in Egypt as Traders and Mercenaries"

"Senenmut's Aegeans: Elite Cosmopolitan Display in the 18th Dynasty"

All talks will be recorded.
