An Introduction to Fingertips - the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities public health profiles tool

Abstract: 'Fingertips' is the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities public health data collection and analysis tool. Data are organised into themed 'profiles' and additional analytical tools to facilitate exploration and analyses of public health metrics at national, regional and local level. Where data are available and robust, the tool can be used to undertake geographical comparisons, time series analyses and to explore inequalities. This talk is a short introduction to the tool and its uses. Attendees will be provided with information about the comprehensive training session run by OHID that they can sign up to, should they wish to understand and use Fingertips in more detail.

Bio: Dr Kath Roberts is an experienced public health researcher and has held a number of senior roles for the Association of Public Health Observatories, Public Health England and most recently the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities where she was Deputy Head of Population Health Analysis. Kath joined the Public Health and Society research group at York as a Senior Lecturer in Public Health Nutrition in November 2023. Kath has extensive experience of working across the health system to translate data into public health intelligence at national and local level. She has led a number of high profile national programmes of research and data analyses relating to population level dietary intake, obesity and food insecurity as well as cardiovascular disease, inequalities in population health, the wider determinants of health and tobacco and alcohol use. She has also led several systematic and rapid evidence reviews to inform government policy in particular relating to the sugar tax and other government policy relating to diet. She is a Trustee of the Association for the Study of Obesity, a registered Public Health Nutritionist and vice chair of the Faculty of Public Health's Special Interest Group on Food.
