Event description

Facilitated Action Learning Set

ACTION LEARNING is a method of improving and developing organisations and individuals. It works with small groups, or sets, which meet regularly to find solutions for their problems, whether work or domestic, using a principle of open questioning and feedback.

Despite the name there’s not much obvious action! Meetings are slow and reflective, enabling members to discover insights of strategies in ways they might miss in busier forums. At each meeting two or three participants talk about a particular problem or situation going on in their lives. The other participants don’t give specific advice or opinions but, by careful questioning, help the ‘presenter’ discover possible solutions. The next time the set meets the presenter reports back on progress and then other participants have their turn.

There will be an opportunity to learn facilitation skills and the group it is hoped will become self facilitating.

Each set member commits to the five full days to attend. All costs include refeshments / lunch and afternoon tea and cake.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

You will need a car to get to the venue its not accesible via train or bus.

The Space Rose Cottage, Tracebridge, Wellington, Somerset TA21 OHG From Taunton/M5 go to junction (J26) Wellington and follow signs off motorway towards Wellington until you get to a roundabout. Take A38 Exeter (ie left) and continue on A38 at next roundabout. After a mile or so you pass the Beambridge Hotel on your left and start climbing a hill. Get in the right hand lane at the top of the hill to take the right turn towards Holcombe Rogus and Ashbrittle.

I found for some of the way following the signs to The Globe were helpful. Follow this road towards Ashbrittle – you come into Tracebridge and see the Tracebridge sign on the left. just after this you will come to the part of the road seen in the photo there are two parking areas.

One is on the edge of a Quarry so please be very very careful. The other is near the green house. Both can be muddy so bring a spare pare of outdoor boots.

Then walk down the hill and take the first path marked Rose Cottage. Hesperus Cottage (B&B) is opposite. You will see the stone steps on the right got up those steps and you will see the building in the photo below which is where we are meeting.

From the South – take M5 J27 and leave the roundabout at the 3rd exit signed Wellington A38. Follow this road for about 4 miles. On one of the sections of dual carriage way you take a left turn to Appley (small sign –look out) If you miss this turn take the next left – it joins the same road) then left at the end at this small section of lane which is one way. Follow this road straight to Tracebridge – Rose Cottage is the first drive on the right – you will see the Rose Cottage sign on the gate. Hesperus Cottage (B&B) is opposite.

What can I bring into the event?

You will be given handouts as we go along while you are learning about the set process. The mobile reception is not good at this venue but we do have Wifi.

How can I contact the organiser with any questions?
