Activating Change Open Talks #1: Alia Alzougbi

Rose Bruford's Theatre & Social Change BA (Hons) and Contemporary & Popular Performance (BA) Hons invite you to join us at Tramshed on Thursday 16 October for Activating Change: Open Talks - an evening of inspiring conversation with Alia Alzougbi (of Shubbak Festival)

Alia Alzougbi is a cultural strategist, artist and facilitator working at the intersection of art, social and environmental justice. Her practice uses the arts to interrogate inequality and explore alternative ways of understanding and being. She has worked with national and international organisations as curator and storyteller, creating critical encounters in education and the arts towards collective liberation, from corner shops to world-renowned museums. A Chevening Scholar, Clore Fellow, Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and ISPA Fellow 2026 - Alia is Artistic Director & CEO of Shubbak, Europe’s largest festival of contemporary Arab arts. She rehearses moving through life with humility, joy and rest, foregrounding dignity for all beings and the Earth, while mentoring those facing systemic barriers.

Together we will consider the many ways change might be enacted in our communities and in wider society - creating a shared understanding of the goals we have and the strategies we might use to get there. These (free but ticketed) talks are for the students on our course as well as across different courses at Rose Bruford College and are also open to the wider public.

ACCESS:

- The space (Tramshed) is fully wheelchair accessible with accessible toilets nearby.

- The event will be fully relaxed - this means it will allow for noise and movement, leaving and re-entering the space when needed.
