Event description

Description

Following the success of the Research Based Innovations in Healthy Ageing Symposium (http://www.translate-medtech.ac.uk/events/research-based-innovations-healthy-ageing-symposium/ ), the SARCA group (Carnegie School of Sport, Leeds Beckett University) is hosting its first Symposium on Active Ageing in Health and Disease.

SARCA is a part our Centre for Active Lifestyles (http://www.leedsbeckett.ac.uk/carnegie-school-of-sport/research/research-centres/active-lifestyles/ ), and its mission is to optimise health and well-being of clinical and non-clinical populations by implementation of physical activity and/or nutrition interventions and initiatives underpinned by basic science. A number of aligned special research interest areas within the group include Sarcopenia, Appetite and Energy Balance, Respiratory Health, Cardiometabolic Health, Arthritis and Inflammation (SARCA).

The primary objective of the Symposium is to showcase how physical activity and nutrition interventions and initiatives can promote active and healthy ageing in health and disease across the lifespan. A secondary objective is to engage Academia, Local Authorities, NHS, Clinical Commissioning Groups, Public Health England through every stage of the research process from design to evaluation and implementation of interventions and initiatives. The outline of the programme is detailed below and, the day is shaping up to be very exciting with confirmed Keynote speakers Professor Anton Wagenmakers (Professor of Exercise Metabolism at Liverpool John Moores University) and Dr Jacqueline Andrews (Director of Research and Innovation at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust).

We also invite you to submit abstracts of your research that aligns with the theme of the Symposium. These could be presented either as short carousel type 5-min presentations or poster display. Presentation at the Symposium does not preclude you from presenting data elsewhere. Apart from the title, authors and affiliations, abstracts should be 250 words max in length and include aim, methods, results, conclusion and a correspondence email.

For any queries and to submit your abstracts, please email Dr Theocharis Ispoglou:

t.ispoglou@leedsbeckett.ac.uk by the 30th of May 2019.

Attendance is free for delegates. Breakfast, lunch, and refreshments will be provided throughout the day.
