Event description

Description

This workshop is specifically designed for English teachers who don’t have a drama or performance background. It is designed to explore practical techniques for engaging with and exploring Shakespeare's texts . The facilitators, who work with such companies as the RSC and the Royal National Theatre, will use techniques and approaches from the professional rehearsal room to provide you with a practical toolbox to unlock the text with your students.

It is intended to give non-performance trained educators a portfolio of practical and physical approaches to text that can absorb and immerse a variety of different students in varying contexts and age groups.

In this workshop you will be given a practical guide and toolkit to help empower and engage your students with Shakespeare. No previous knowledge of approaching Shakespeare in this way is necessary.

We will cover practical approaches and exercises with the language and verse for all ages and abilities along with methods of breaking down the text, staging and directing approaches and ways into practical exploration of themes, characters and the world of the plays.

This one day continuing professional development course has been specifically commissioned by A2 Connect- The Arts & Education network: Central south. It is free subject to application to teachers who have a letter of recommendation from a member of their school leadership team and provide evidence of how this will develop their professional practice. We will support schools with the cover costs of having teachers absent from the classroom for the duration of the course.

Refreshments and a light lunch will be provided.
