Connected Communities: Active citizenship, belonging, and the role of housing providers

Delivered by Steve Broome, Associate Co-Director of the Centre for Citizenship and Community, University of Central Lancashire, Community Researcher, this is a free seminar, suitable for students, staff, practitioners in community engagement, public health, and housing and members of the public with an interest in citizenship and community involvement. All welcome.

The Centre for Citizenship and Community has been working with Orbit housing association to understand the resource networks of their tenants and other local residents and how this contributes to a sense of belonging and citizenship. The seminar will reflect on the findings from a survey of some 1,700 people in communities in which Orbit has housing stock, and on what this means for building thriving communities.

Steve Broome is Associate Co-Director of the Centre for Citizenship and Community, and Director of Broome|Gekoski, a research, evaluation and social innovation consultancy. He has interests across community development, ageing, loneliness, social networks, mental wellbeing, substance misuse, and criminal justice. He was formerly Director of Research at the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) were he set up the Connected Communities programme, which tested social network and asset-based approaches to community development and public services.
